You can't astral project outside of your body and pick your eyes out of the machine.
You left the university because your special interest was herbology, not any of this fancy bullshit. So you never learned how to do projection. Herbologists actually help people, while astral projectors end up working in a theatre or something.
You try to convince yourself that astral projection is useless but suddenly realize it could actually help you in this situation. You feel a ping of guilt.
(Herbology is a non-magical discipline and it's something they didn't teach at the university, so you lost interest in going to other classes and eventually they kicked you out.)
